Equipment Review: Zero Friction Tee from Excel Golf Tee, by Jeffrey Reed
It’s the little things in life that count, right? If you’re talking golf, that’s not always true. Birdies are better than snowmen, but a 460cc monster beats the heck out of a Persimmon driver. However, if you’re looking for a small, inexpensive piece of equipment to help better your game, look no further than the Zero Friction golf tee.
Although my Persimmon driver has long been retired, I am a golf traditionalist. Are you kidding me? I just started wearing mock turtleneck shirts on the course last season (I’m still not wearing lime green, though). So, replacing my wooden tees even for just a few rounds around the track took a lot of convincing. But I must admit, I am totally impressed with how the Zero Friction tees helped me drive the ball long and straight. And after 36 holes, the same Zero Friction tee was still in play.
Distributed by Excel Golf Tee, the 2 3/4-inch Zero Friction tee is made of a biodegradable material designed to not harm mowers, nor the course ecosystem. They look like mini missiles, with a top end featuring three prongs to hold the ball, thereby reducing friction and resistance at impact. In fact, the company suggests pointing a prong at the flag to minimize drag.
Excel says the Zero Friction tee will add five yards to your drives, and help you hit the ball seven yards more accurately. It may not be scientific research, but during two rounds of Zero Friction tee use, my drives were as long and straight as I’ve ever hit from the blocks. And, the tee didn’t break.
A 50-pack of Zero Friction tees retail at $4.99 US. For more information, visit www.zerofrictiontees.com.
