Equipment Review: Yonex Cyberstar CT 460cc Driver, by Jeffrey Reed
One of the prettiest drivers I’ve sampled in a number of years, the Cyberstar CT 460cc from Yonex boasts both brawn and beauty. Sleek and slick, this big dog will add both distance and accuracy from the tee for high-handicap amateurs and veteran pros alike. Yonex Tour professionals on staff include Scott Hoch and Colin Montgomerie – I think of Monty when I think of Yonex. The Cyberstar CT 460cc driver will see you think more about carrying that dogleg or hazard instead of laying up and playing it safe.
Here are the specs of this very large but not overwhelming carbon-titanium driver from Yonex. Head construction combines a high tensile graphite crown, with a precision cast 6-4 titanium body, and Tungsten weight to deepen the centre of gravity. I played a stiff shaft, with a 9-degree loft – 10.5-degree loft is also an option. Standard length is 45.25-inches, and the shaft is a beauty: proprietary Yonex HM low-elasticity graphite shaft. Boasting five strands of UL-Titanium (tm), strategically positioned within to deliver ultimate power, this shaft is extremely light yet a big performer.
If you hold an UL-Titanium fibre and pull, it stretches, according to Yonex. Release the fibre and it snaps back to its original shape, transferring maximum energy to the ball. Each ball I hit left the club face quickly, and flew with a high trajectory. But what impressed me the most was the ability to work the ball left and right – it was easy with this club.
Yonex has a deep history, with its founding in 1946. In 2003, Yonex re-established itself as a leader in graphite technology, with the introduction of the Cyberstar PowerBrid driver. The Cyberstar CT 460cc driver is the latest star amongst the growing golf line from Yonex.
