Equipment Review: Yes! Golf Donna C-Groove Putter
by Jeffrey Reed, Editor, LondonOntarioGolf.com

Golfers are a fickle bunch, especially those lucky enough to play golf for a living. In particular, a putter is the one club that can jump in and out of a bag faster than John Daly can leap out of the Hooters hospitality tent after a rain delay.

OK, so even a tortoise is quicker than JD. But you get the point. When the flat stick is working, it’s your best friend. When you can’t make anything outside of three feet, the putter is quickly replaced by another club. At last that’s the trend today – just ask Sergio Garcia, who actually put two putters in his bag during the Accenture Match Play Championship.

One putter that allows you to consistently roll the rock in good form is the Yes! C-Groove putter. We’ve raved about the C-Groove technology before here at London Ontario Golf. I used the original Callie blade putter en route to a course-record in recent times, and was more than impressed by the true roll promoted by the C-Groove design.

Now, Yes! Golf has produced another winner in its Donna model. It’s not a blade, nor a mallet. In fact, the Donna is a hybrid putter, composed of two separate materials. The face of this beauty is made of aviation grade aluminum, while the body is made of 304 stainless steel. The result? An extremely high MOI, which means on top of the C-Groove technology, it’s almost impossible to hit a bad putt off the face. In one word, this putter is forgiving.

The combo design twinning mallet and cavity-back blade aesthetics makes this putter a true hybrid, and a winner. The heel-toe balance offers extreme forgiveness, and a full offset shaft presents a double bend. Add a single alignment line to the cavity of the putter head, and you have a club that makes putting a pleasure, not punishment.

A face-balanced putter, the Donna hybrid boasts a 355 g head weight, and a Titanium Carbon finish for a classy touch. Available in RH and LH models, and in shaft lengths from 32 in. to 37 in., this putter won’t steer you wrong. Putt after putt, this flat stick steered the pill in the right direction. It took a few swings to adjust to the extreme offset shaft, but once I did it was smooth sailing.

By now, the C-Groove design is legendary. In short, the face grooves are designed with a 20-degree upward slant. Upon contact, the edges grip the surface of the ball, and simultaneously lift the ball out of its resting position, and promote over-the-top roll. Translated: no skidding, no sidespin, no backspin. Nothin’ but true roll.

I highly recommend this putter for players of all skill levels. Complete with stylish clubhead cover, and tacky (in a good sense) Winn AVS grip, this putter will most definitely help your game on the greens – where it counts most of all.

The Donna putter retails at many golf stores for $250. For more information on all of Yes! Golf’s offerings, visit www.yesgolf.com.
