Equipment Review: Yes! C-Groove Putters, by Jeffrey Reed

The one club that most golfers tend to tinker with throughout their careers is the putter, and it’s no surprise. Putting is all about feel, comfort and trust. Every quality flat stick – from the time-tested traditional blade to the controversial modern belly model – is designed to do one thing: put the putt in the hole consistently with a true roll.

The folks at Yes! C-Groove Putters have really stumbled across something with their new technology. Teacher Harold Swash invented the Yes! putters which feature a semi-circular grooved face, aiming for a true roll without skidding or hopping.

This year, I’m putting with the Callie – one of 11 models from Yes! C-Groove Putters. Sure, nothing beats time spent on the practice green, but the Callie has already this season taken strokes off my game. It’s a classic heel-toe style putter with a heavier feel than a Titleist Scotty Cameron, and with the addition of the C-Groove face. The Callie does exactly what it’s advertised to do: prevent skidding, sliding, back-spinning and hopping. Forward rolling motion immediately upon ball striking is achieved on a consistent basis. The grooved face actually grips the ball, and offers a true roll time after time.

Yes! C-Groove Putters are named after wives of PGA Tour players. In 2004, Retief Goosen one putted 11 times on Sunday at the U.S. Open with the Tracy blade model. The latest putter from Yes! is the Olivia, a new variable weight model with adjusting screws in the putter sole. Three metal types – aluminum, brass and Tungsten – allow club head change from 320 grams to 355 grams.

It’s no surprise, Yes! C-Groove Putters are gaining mainstream popularity on the PGA Tour and LPGA Tour. The real test, though, is when you put one of these putters into the hands of an amateur golfer, and watch their scores plummet. The Callie model is one putter I intend to continue using in order to better my game, in search of that elusive scratch handicap.
