Equipment Review: U.S. Kids Golf
by Jeffrey Reed, Editor, London Ontario Golf
There’s a reason U.S. Kids Golf has earned the handle, Official Junior Golf Clubs of London Ontario Golf. Quite simply, they are the best. As a youngster, I wish I had the luxury of playing with clubs which were tailor made for my size and playing ability. Thankfully, my nephews and nieces can now benefit from such technology, thanks to U.S. Kids Golf.
This season, my nephew, Derrick, is playing with the Tour Series 60-41 set from U.S. Kids Golf. Derrick is an outstanding athlete – an avid hockey player – who demands golf clubs made for kids with above average athletic ability, yet made to size. The Tour Series 60-41 features TS-6 technology – 6% lighter clubheads. And, they clubs are manufactured for an optimal height range of 4’10 ½” to 5’1 ½”.
The full set features a 400cc Beta Forged titanium driver; 17-4 stainless steel fairway woods and hybrid; 431 stainless steel irons (steel or graphite shafts); Black Nickel 8620 stainless steel spin wedges; a perimeter weighted alignment (mallet) putter; and a sharp looking, highly-functional stand bag. Derrick likes his Orange/Navy bag which comes standard with the set. I’m told orange is in with the cool set these days.
There are optional stand bags as well, plus 8-club and 11-club sets available (with or without stand bags). All clubs are available in right- and left-handed models.

You can see by the quality of these clubs that they are not children’s toys: these are top-notch clubs that you and I would be happy to play with if we stood 5’ tall. And that’s the beauty of U.S. Kids Golf. The Tour Series clubs are made from the same high-tech materials as leading brand adult equipment, including beta forged titanium drivers, stainless steel woods and irons, black nickel spin wedges and more. For kids playing at an intermediate to advanced level with swing speeds above a specified mph for their height, the Tour Series clubs are designed to perform.
- Clubhead weight in Tour Series is 6% heavier than in Ultralight clubs.
- 100% graphite shafts are stiffer for higher swing speeds and frequency matched to get stiffer as the player becomes taller.
- Drivers are constructed to achieve maximum allowable performance and conform to USKG rules.
- More precise club lengths are featured between sets with woods increasing 2" in length and all other clubs increasing 1.5".
- Grips increase in size for appropriate feel as hands continue to grow.
U.S. Kids Golf was started in January 1997, as a solution to the problem its founder, Dan Van Horn, had when getting his kids into golf. His children, ages 3 and 6, were enthusiastic at first, but their interest quickly dropped.
"They weren't having fun," Van Horn recalls. "It seemed that they lost interest after only 15 minutes. At the time, I didn't know cutoffs and junior clubs were so heavy. They were not only hurting my kids' swings, but also their desire to play."
That's when Dan Van Horn began developing Ultralight Kidsklubs, designed to be 25% lighter than adult and most junior clubs, and formed the company U.S. Kids Golf.
Since then, parents and pros across the country and around the world have seen the incredible difference Ultralight and Performance Light Kidsklubs have made in their child's swing and enthusiasm for the game. Ultralight and Performance Light Kidsklubs are changing the way kids learn and enjoy the game of golf.
