Review: Srixon Z-UR Golf Ball, by Jeffrey Reed
Graphite and titanium have forever changed the golf industry, but I think Jack Nicklaus really hit the nail on the head when he said the golf ball is more responsible for added length and control than any new club. Why else would Augusta National discuss a standard ball for future Masters tournaments?
There are a number of incredible golf balls in today’s market, from the PGA Tour favourite Titleist Pro V1/V1x, to the new Wilson Staff Tx4. Now, the Z-UR from Srixon is making headlines and turning par-5s into birdie holes.
I put the Srixon Z-UR into play during a recent round, and was honestly shocked at how it exploded off the club face with a long, penetrating drive which helped put me in birdie position on numerous occasions. Not only is this ball long: it’s soft around the greens, and allowed for maximum playability with irons off the tee.
The Z-UR is a three-piece ball with a newly developed, high performance ultra-thin urethane-elastomer cover. The inner boundary layer consists of high resilient ionomer, and the design involves 330 high trajectory promoting dimples. What this means is majestic shotmaking and green-biting ability are yours with this soft yet durable ball.
Srixon Sports USA, Inc. has been distributing premium golf balls and equipment since 1997, and its market share is growing substantially, thanks in part to the Z-UR. An incredibly soft, shear-resistant, and membrane-thin cover measuring an astounding 0.02-in. thin, and featuring a large, fast core offers tremendous initial velocity, ideal ball flight and pinpoint control and feel.
This ball has a place in my bag this season: it’s long, soft and easily controlled. What more can you ask for in a golf ball, other than guaranteed birdies? The Srixon Z-UR goes a long way in bettering your game.
