Equipment Review: Srixon Z-URS Ball
by Jeffrey Reed

We’ve written plenty about the premium three- and four-piece golf balls in today’s marketplace. None have equaled Srixon’s Z-UR three-piece beauty when it comes to exploding off the club face – until now. Welcome the Z-URS, sharing the same technology as the tour-proven Z-UR, but with a softer feel.

The new Z-URS boasts one of the thinnest urethane-elastomer covers of any premium golf ball – just .020 inches. Combine this with a triple threat including a PBDS enhanced core, high-velocity ionomer boundary layer, and 330 based high trajectory aerodynamics, and you have a high-tech birdie machine. In fact, Srixon says its engineers have found a way to lower the core compression of the Z-UR by more than 10 per cent with the Z-URS, without sacrificing any of the shotmaking demanded by touring pros and low-handicap amateurs alike. The result: you can dial long distance, and appreciate soft responsive feel around the greens.

I took the Z-URS to the course, and found Srixon’s claims to be true: this ball is long, and soft, not unlike the Callaway HX Tour 56. The trajectory of the Z-URS is higher than the Z-UR, but the flight is still relatively penetrating, avoiding tee shots which seem to hang in the air forever.

Srixon Sports USA, Inc. has been distributing premium golf balls and equipment since 1997, and has recently added Jim Furyk for added visibility and credibility. Chalk up another win for Srixon, thanks to the Z-URS. It explodes off the club face, dials long distance, but offers soft feel greenside. What more could you ask for in a golf ball?

Whether you choose the Z-UR and its harder cover and lower trajectory, or the Z-URS, you’ll improve your game with Srixon’s solid offering of premium golf balls. For more on Srixon, visit www.srixon.com.
