Accessory Review: PeakVision Sports Sunglasses, by Jeffrey Reed
The idea behind PeakVision Sports sunglasses isn’t rocket science, but the material used in these golf-specific glasses was originally developed for the windscreens in military helicopters. With a big thumbs-up from PGA Tour players Billy Andrade and Scott McCarron, Champions Tour great Bruce Fleisher, and commentator David Feherty, PeakVision Sports’s patented Dual-Zone technology, 100-per-cent distortion-free sunglasses are winning accolades for offering a better view of the game from tee to green.
In fact, noted optometrist Dr. Craig Farnsworth a.k.a. The Putt Doctor recently compared high-performance eyewear manufacturers across nine categories, and handed PeakVision the highest rating in eight categories.
Here’s how they work. The Dual-Zone lenses feature neutral-density grey tinting in the upper zone that reduces glare and allows for accurate distance perception. The amber-tuned colour in the lower zone highlights the contours of the green for better reads of putts than with the naked eye. Incorporating the two filters into one lens allows golfers to clearly distinguish between the turf and the sky to create optimal visual acuity.
I slipped on the new Slam model, and was hooked instantly. The lenses offered a crisp, clear view and allowed me to easily differentiate between grass and sky. In fact, I was amazed at how clearly the playing area appeared, and how the glasses offered a stronger sense of confidence. What’s more, they look good, too, and are offered in a variety of styles.
The material used in the lenses is an optical polymer with superior optical clarity and uniformity, scratch resistance, durability and ultra-light weight compared to traditional polycarbonate – first designed for military helicopters. This eyewear also provides 100-per-cent UV400 protection from the entire spectrum of UV radiation. In short, it’s a winner.
It’s important to build a solid foundation for the golf swing with proper footwear and club grips. It’s also necessary to have a good read on the course. PeakVision Sports offers the equivalent of 20-20 vision with their high-performance eyewear. Try them and see for yourself.
