Equipment Review: KZG Q Fairway Wood
by Jeffrey Reed, Editor, LondonOntarioGolf.com
KZG, “The #1 Custom ProLine,” takes great pride in its high-end equipment and true custom fitting endeavours. We at London Ontario Golf have found great success with KZG drivers, namely the original Gemini and the Gemini II, and most recently the SPX driver.
Here’s a fairway wood from KZG that will knock the stuffing out of the ball: the new Q Fairway Wood. KZG calls it “our longest hitting wood to date.” After testing this monster, we won’t argue. Here’s why.
The first thing we noticed about the Q Fairway Wood is the beautiful aesthetics. KZG spares no expense when it comes to the modern yet traditional look of its clubs. The Q Fairway Wood, with a Midnight Black head and red tail, plus satin-finish sole and face, is an instant classic in the looks department. As far as performance goes, it’s equally impressive.
KZG’s hottest fairway wood features a Cup Face design, meaning the entire face is the sweet spot. Time after time testing this beauty, the pill popped deep and with authority. I found the trajectory to be high with this club, despite little spin, but close the clubface and it’s easy to hit a mid-trajectory shot. You can work the ball, but with such a high COR and MOI, thanks to the Q Fairway Wood’s design, hitting a stinger with this club could be difficult for a mid- to high-handicap golfer.
No worries. The Q Fairway Wood more than makes up for frozen ropes with its myriad of abilities – most notably, going long distant and landing as soft as a butterfly on the green. A shallow profile does promote workability, offering a sense of confidence at address, too. No matter what lie we tested the Q Fairway Wood with, it passed the test with flying colours.
A deep CG and high MOI, coupled with an ultra-hard C455 face, see the ball leave the clubface with true authority. I absolutely love the shallow profile, large flat sole and deep CG. It’s certainly one of the best fairway woods I have tested, and deserves mention alongside the top fairway metals being used on the PGA Tour.
I tested the 15° 3-wood – it’s available in 17°, 19° and 21° models too. LH models are available in 15° and 19°. A neutral face angle, plus crown and sole of 17-4 Stainless Steel, add to this club’s instant credibility as either a player’s club or a game-improvement fairway wood – the best of both worlds. A special note regarding the Novatech 7500 shaft from KZG: it’s a perfect partner for this club.
Two thumbs up for this latest offering from KZG. If you are looking for a reliable fairway wood with all the latest technology, then put the Q Fairway Wood in your bag. Learn more at www.kzgolf.com.
