Golf Shoe Review: Geox Protech
by Jeffrey Reed, Editor, LondonOntarioGolf.com
Today's golf industry has taken (sorry for the pun) giant steps in producing comfortable, athletic yet stylish footwear. As a golfer with special needs in footwear - and a low-handicap golfer who walks the course - I find it difficult to source such golf shoes. I suppose you could say I take the path less travelled (again, sorry for the podiatry pun).
One glance at the new Geox Protech breathable golf shoe, and I knew this shoe would help start my 2010 golf season on the right foot (last pun, I promise). In fact, Geox - a leading shoe designer and manufacturer headquartered in Italy - has produced one of the best new golf shoes of the season.
The name, Geox, stems from the Greek word, geo, meaning earth, and includes the letter X which comes from the shoe's technology. Makers of the shoe that breathes, Geox scores an ace with its new Protech golf shoe.
The Protech line improves stability and flexibility, thanks to the introduction of the torsion system in TPU applied to the upper at the heel. In addition to improving flexibility, this ensures a better fit, giving the golfer more stability while putting on the green.
As well, the Protech men's golf shoe from Geox uses the patented NET system, a technological innovation that allows optimum breathability - especially important when walking the golf course on a hot, hazy, humid southwestern Ontario day. This system includes a sole composed of a supportive techno-fabric net that, together with the waterproof Geox membrane, allows the foot to breathe over the entire sole, preventing dampness inside the shoe and guaranteeing comfort over 18 holes. In short, the Protech model from Geox goes beyond the function of the typical golf shoe which only allows heat to escape from the top, but not from the sole. And the waterproof sole also prevents moisture and mud from entering the shoe, so you'll stay cool and dry throughout your round.
Already this season, I've worn the Geox Protech shoe in a myriad of weather conditions - including cold, wet mornings and hot, dry afternoons. This shoe performed exceptionally well. I like the athletic heel and ankle support - great for golfers like me who walk the course. Stylish enough for 20-something golfers yet not too far out-there for the 40-something golfer like me, the Geox Protech has drawn some favourable remarks from fellow golfers, too.
The Geox Protech men's golf shoe is available at Geox shops across Canada, and retails for $220.
