Equipment Review: KZG Gemini Fairway Woods, by Jeffrey Reed
When KZG offered to put a new Gemini fairway wood into my bag for a test run, I was already aware of the company’s status stemming from its state-of-the-art club fitting facility within its North Hollywood, California headquarters. Not having played KZG clubs, I only recognized them by name and reputation: easy to hit, innovative in design.
When the Gemini 3-wood arrived, the first thing I noticed was how easily it aligned while addressing the ball: it was automatic, offering a sense of confidence. Secondly, two design features jumped out at me: an inner and outer face plate design; and a large, deep head. After putting the club to its true test on the course, I discovered why KZG has won numerous accolades for its Custom ProLine which offers custom-fitted golf equipment recognized worldwide.
The 15E Gemini 3-wood delivers a high, straight, soft-landing shot time after time – and it’s long, too. Par-5s will buckle at the knees when you pull the KZG out of your bag. Although designed for all levels of golfers, the mid- to high-handicapper will benefit most from the Gemini fairway woods: they are forgiving, play well from a variety of lies, and are high and soft from the tee. Each time I used this club, it helped produce a majestic shot of high trajectory and soft landing, and the ball always travelled straight as an arrow.
According to KZG, its patent-pending twin-face technology is comprised of two faceplates: the inner face is affixed to the perimeter of the outer face plate in order to add greater stability and reduce side spin. The net result is a larger sweet spot and virtually no loss of distance or accuracy on off-centre hits. To assure maximum distance, the outer face of the new Gemini fairway wood features a specialized heat-treated beta titanium DAT 51 insert, which has 60% greater tensile strength than 6/4 titanium. The mid-profile Gemini fairway wood’s performance is further enhanced by an innovative design featuring a Uni-Size body. Whereas most fairway woods decrease in body size and face depth as lofts increase, the Gemini fairway woods maintain the same body size and face depth throughout, making them even easier to hit with greater accuracy.
The Gemini fairway woods are available in Steel Blue or Midnight Black in RH: 15E/#3, 19E/#5 and 23E/#7, and LH: 15E/#3 and 19E/#5. For more information, visit the company website, www.kzgolf.com.
If you’re looking for a reliable 3-wood with high trajectory, then the Gemini fairway woods are the clubs for you.
