Equipment Review: Gaim Golf G360 Putter, by Jeffrey Reed
If there is one club we golfers tinker with the most, it’s the putter. I’m a self-professed blade man, and not a big fan of the mallot-style putter (I say that this week), despite the many accolades and scientific research that proves the mallot can improve your game. But as Lee Trevino once said, "It’s not the arrow, it’s the Indian."
Any way you slice it, Gaim Golf has developed a new putter which, even in a right-handed model, I found easy to putt with (like Jim Nelford, I’m a right-handed golfer who putts from the left side). The Gaim Golf G360 putter is unlike any other flat stick I’ve seen, thanks to its heavy weight, composite head and unique bottom hole which allows you to pick up the golf ball without bending over – golfers with funky backs can appreciate this feature.
A Winn grip and a True Temper shaft are great beginnings for this new putter. It only gets better. Despite the mirror image, I was able to swing freely with a feeling of confidence and control, and for good reasons. This mallot putter positions the club shaft at the front of the head with a slight offset design. The G360 boasts 80-per-cent heel-to-toe weighting, with head centre cutout, for a large sweet spot and high centre of gravity promoting over-spin. A 360-gram head is a key point, as it promotes flowing momentum even on short putts. The one-piece, tungsten composite head provides a solid feel, and an elevated rear sole eliminates stubbing. The putter’s precision milled face was designed to guarantee a perfectly flat striking surface, and it appears to have hit the mark with this feature. Also, accurate alignment marks promote proper face angle at impact.
PGA Tour and Champions Tour pro, and 1989 Ryder Cup team member, Mark McCumber, uses the G360 Putter. The club is also plugged by the Putt Doctor, Dr. Craig Farnsworth, and the LPGA Tour’s Jackie Gallagher-Smith. Thanks to innovative design, this might be the arrow you’re looking for to help your golf game. For more information, visit www.gaimgolf.com.
