Equipment Review:
Yes! Golf Callie –fc Putter
by Jeffrey Reed, Editor, LondonOntarioGolf.com
As a huge proponent of Yes! Golf putters, it has been satisfying to see how the company has over the years emerged from a smaller-market manufacturer of flat sticks to maker of one of the most in-demand putters today – and winning tournaments around the globe. We at London Ontario Golf believe in the Yes! putter – it’s why Yes! Golf is the Official Putter of London Ontario Golf.
If you’re not familiar with the C-Groove technology of the Yes! Golf putters, shame on you! Here’s the skinny. The C-Groove on every Yes! putter prevents skidding, side-spin and back-spin. It’s as simple as that.
So is putting with Yes! Golf’s new Callie-fc model. In the past, I’ve putted with the original Callie model and saw great success, posting a course-record 62. I posted a course-best 60 last season with the Yes! Donna hybrid model – the same model Henrik Stenson used to win The Players Championship at TPC this year.
The Callie-fc is a big improvement upon the original Callie model, and offers a one-piece head made of 1035 Forged Carbon Steel. It’s a traditionally-styled cavity back blade putter with a plumber’s style moderate offset hosel. The grooves are precision milled into the face, helping provide the ultimate marriage of traditional forged material and patented C-Groove technology. This toe-weighted blade putter features a 360 g head, with 2.5° loft (available 2° up or down), and standard 72° lie. I really like the sharp-looking, stable, straight black steel shaft. And who doesn’t like a Winn AVS black grip?
I put the Callie-fc to the test from a variety of lengths, and discovered it to be one of the very best putters I’ve tested. The forged head provides true contact and roll with instant feedback and outstanding control – it was like putting with attached radar. Available lengths: 33-, 34- and 35-in., with custom lengths up to 37 in. It’s available in both RH and LH versions. MSRP: $300 US.
The Callie-fc from Yes! Golf is a keeper. If you’re a fan of the traditional blade putter, I suggest you give this one a shot. You won’t find a putter with better feel. The pill comes off the face as soft as butter, and as a result, there should be a whole lot more fist pumps on the green.
