Apparel Review: Fairway & Greene Spring 2008 Catalogue
by Jeffrey Reed, Editor, LondonOntarioGolf.com

Fairway & Greene is well-known for its top-notch golf apparel. Combining exquisite designs and stylish comfort, the company’s Spring 2008 and Fall 2008 catalogues are bursting with colours, fresh designs and, now, high-performance apparel.

Pureformance from Fairway & Greene is a unique knitting and finishing of a cotton/poly blend with special treatment of the yarn, as well as the knitted fabric. The result is a lustrous appearance of cotton, but also wicking and drying in a synthetic form. It’s the best of both worlds, really: style and performance.

Fairway & Greene golf shirts have appealed to me mainly because of the high-quality fabrics, which include: Alpaca; Cashmere; Cotton/Tencel; Linen; Merino Wool; Merino Stretch; Pima Cotton (a personal favourite, in addition to Pureformance qualities); and Tropical Wool. The latest addition to my golf apparel: Fairway & Greene’s Men’s Equinox Jacquard, in Adobe colour. It’s a Mercerized Cotton shirt – another great fabric – boasting a subtle yet striking pattern which instantly makes it recognizable as part of the Fairway & Greene collection.

The Spring 2008 Collection from Fairway & Greene includes the Early Spring Lakeside Collection, featuring Rich Blues and Aquas, accented with Apple Green, Raspberry and Black. The company’s signature Lisle and Oxford Mesh are the core fabrics, along with several Hybrid stripes that are a combination of the two.

Fairway & Greene says its Pureformance fabric “continues to show huge growth, and as such we have added to the selection in this Lakeside collection of textured solids, as well as multiple classic and fancy stripe patterns.”

Following a record-setting growth of its Ladies line, Fairway & Greene has expanded into three distinct colour palates and collections for Spring 2008. They include Bungalow, the first hint of Spring with a South Pacific feel. Black, Banana and White combined with Turquoise and Lawn green make up the palate. Batik and bamboo prints are highlighted in bottoms, sweaters and accented in shirts and accessories.

Fairway & Greene today boasts a base of 3,500 green grass accounts, and works with PGA Professionals, buyers and merchandisers across the U.S. I know that its Canadian presence is also very strong. Fairway & Greene has won numerous industry awards, most notably the Association of Golf Merchandisers #1 Vendor Award for the past five years.
