Fashion Accessory Review:
Coppertone Sport Eyewear from Cedar Key Trading Company
by Jeffrey Reed

There’s been a push lately to promote each and every aspect of bettering your golf game – from high-performance shoes for better stability and distance, to mesh hats possessing the same breathability, wind resistance and perspiration transformation as modern high-tech shirts. This sure isn’t the game our grandfathers played.

With that in mind, Cedar Key Trading Company, headquartered in New Port Richey, Florida is now acting as the exclusive golf industry distributor for the newly-launched Coppertone Sport Eyewear line. We know the Coppertone name for its sunscreen products. Now, the company whose name has been synonymous with sun protection for a half-century manufactures a great line of sport eyewear.

There are two basic types of Coppertone Sport Eyewear: metal frame styles; and plastic frame sunglasses. I sampled the CS133 plastic frame sport glasses, with large wraparound lenses that are so popular today. In fact, I am impressed with the size of the lenses – important since we should all be aware of the dangers of ultraviolet rays.

Cedar Key says its research shows nearly 45 per cent of all golfers surveyed wear sunglasses on the course – almost triple the number of just two years ago. Each pair of glasses from the Coppertone Sport Eyewear line has UVA/UVB protection. The lenses are either TAC or shatterproof Polycarbonate, and both ensure a super clear view. My glasses arrived on the first warm, sunny day of this early spring in southwestern Ontario, so I put them to the test. They passed with flying colours. My view was clear, and the glasses fit tightly, too.

Metal frame styles boast solid spring frames, and the entire line is hat-friendly with straight temple tips for universal fit. The rubberized temple tips on the CS133 glasses grip better than the tires on my car – important when it’s 100 degrees F and you’re walking the course. Metal frame styles all sport silicone nose pads, while the plastic framed glasses like the CS133s feature a quality rubber nose pad.

Here’s the best part about these glasses: they’re priced at just $39 US for non-polarized models, and $49 US for polarized styles. The included sport case is a quality item, too, and comes with a clip which attaches to your golf bag. As well, the case can be customized with embroidery for an additional fee.

In addition to handling the Coppertone Sport Eyewear line, Cedar Key also sells Coppertone Polarized Clip-ons, available in a wide variety of lens shapes, complete with hard case.
