Accessory Review: Clubwash, by Jeffrey Reed
Common sense tells us clean club grooves offer more backspin, control, accuracy and distance. Wiping an iron clean with a towel doesn’t always cut it, especially after the turn. A new product, the Clubwash from Garrett Golf Products of Alpharetta, Georgia, provides a simple answer to a problem common on every fairway.
The Clubwash is a portable iron cleaner that clips to your bag, and folds up for easy storage. Four nylon brushes and a set of splashguard brushes are housed within a high-impact plastic case. Simply add 6 ounces of water and a few drops of mild liquid detergent, and you’re instantly a smart caddy. To clean your club, just insert the head into the water, lift it up and down through the brushes, rinse it, and you’re ready to spin that ball close to the hole. When your round is done, just pour the water out through the top. When it’s time to clean the unit, simply remove the vinyl bag and rinse.
If you think the Clubwash is easy to use, consider what company president Jeff Smith witnessed when his son, Garrett, hit his first-ever tee shot on his seventh birthday. Garrett made the game of golf look easy, recording an ace at RiverPines Golf Club in Alpharetta (north of Atlanta) with an 8-iron. No word on whether or not his club was clean, but here’s betting dad made sure it was spotless. Hopefully that 8-iron now rests cleanly on a plaque in the Smith rec room.
