Accessory Review: Clicgear Three-Wheel Cart
by Jeffrey Reed, Editor, LondonOntarioGolf.com

For many golfers, carrying a golf bag – no matter how light – is not an option. Despite the fact I am a low-handicap golfer, specific back issues demand that I push a cart rather than carry my clubs. Thank goodness the days of cumbersome, klutzy two-wheel carts have gone the way of the 1-iron.

Yet, not all three-wheel push carts are created equal. Case in point, the latest cart from Clicgear: Clicgear 2.0. Billed as, “The Next Generation In Push Cart Technology,” this three-wheeled cart boasts both beauty and brawn. Like Natalie Gulbis, it’s a tough performer and it looks good, too.

Introduced at the 2008 PGA Merchandise Show, the latest Clicgear cart hosts a variety of features, but the most impressive function (other than the fact it rolls along the fairway as smooth as Fred Couples’ swing) is its ability to morph into a small package. Consider it the Transformer of three-wheel carts.

The Clicgear cart features a patent pending folding system that allows the cart to fold to a subcompact 24 inches x 13 inches x 15 inches for easy storing in your trunk and in your home or garage. The good folks at Goliath Golf, Canadian distributors of the Clicgear cart, advised me to follow the simple instructions the first time I unfolded and then refolded the cart. The online instructions were easy to follow, but quite honestly folding and unfolding this cart is a snap.

The Clicgear Model 2.0 features a new, easier to open design with new pull handle release system; new maintenance-free airless tires; improved positive-lock brake system; improved beverage holder; new umbrella tube mount located under the console; and a new external umbrella holder. The cart also features aircraft-grade aluminum tubing, powder coated paint, full-size console and a front wheel alignment system.

There is a rainbow of colour options available with the Clicgear three-wheel cart, plus a number of accessory options. It features adjustable bag brackets – not Velcro straps – that hold a golf bag tighter than Ebenezer Scrooge. And even ‘ole Scrooge could afford the Clicgear, which retails in the range of $200.

Two thumbs up for the Clicgear three-wheel cart. It’s easy on the back, easy on the eyes, and easy on the wallet. Consider it a Swiss Army Knife on three wheels. It will cut through rough, and is full of innovative design features.
