Review: Bite Golf Shoes
Men’s Golf X, Women’s Impact
by Jeffrey Reed

There’s a real emphasis today on high-performance golf shoes – considered just as important as custom-fitted clubs. It makes sense: the foundation of your swing is found at the ground level. And, if you’re like me, you walk the course and thus require top-notch shoes that won’t wimp out even in undesirable conditions.

London Ontario Golf is proud to have Bite Shoes on board as our Official Golf Shoe. I’ve written before about the Bite Journey, and the Bite Orthosport Biofit 2T golf shoes (both reviews listed here at London Ontario Golf). The discontinued Journey was aptly named – it stood the test of numerous rounds walked at our local Echo Valley Golf Course. Picture a golf course designed around ski hills: that was a true test for the Journey, which continued to provide comfort after 100 rounds. The Orthosport Biofit shoe continues to lead the industry with its unique interchangeable footbeds.

This season, we review two new shoes from Bite: the men’s Golf X; and the women’s Impact.

Golf X

Similar to the Journey in its fit and style, the Golf X shoe is billed as, “Comfortable, aggressive and technical.” Carrying a two-year limited waterproof guarantee, the Golf X features a soft leather upper for immediate comfort and style; extra collar and tongue padding for added comfort; MIPS waterproof/breathable membrane; and a rounded large toe box for comfort.

The outsole of the Golf X features FootFrame design which supports heel and arch for supreme foot support; a Phylon midsole for extra-lightweight support and cushion; biomechanically correct flex grooves for proper foot motion; high sidewall mudguard for lateral stability; thin yet strong sectioned outsole for light weight; and built-in arch support for added comfort and support – wisely included here yet largely ignored in the golf shoe industry. I don’t know about you, but an arch support is a must in my golf shoes. Thanks to Bite, you don’t have to purchase one separately.

The Golf X also features a removable, supportive compression EVA sockliner; molded traction teeth and lugs or additional green-friendly grip; and Bite’s dynamic Fast Twist spikes for optimal traction and minimal impact.

The Golf X is available in black with white and silver highlights, or white with black and red highlights. MSRP $149.

Ladies’ Impact

With a MSRP of $99, the Impact shoe for women is a real bargain. Our assistant editor, Elizabeth, chose this shoe for its style and performance. Carrying a one-year limited waterproof guarantee, the Impact’s upper features include lightweight Durahide leather for immediate comfort; MIPS waterproof liner; rounded large toe box for comfort; reinforced toe cap for durability; and speed lacing system for quick, secure fit.

The outsole features Bite’s lightweight DXL outsole for excellent traction; hidden shank (this is a good shank, golfers) for extra stability and support; high sidewall mudguard for enhanced stability; and a rounded outsole for smooth follow-through (that’s another good thing) and comfort.

The Impact also features a built-in arch support; removable supportive compression EVA sockliner; and Fast Twist spikes. It’s available in white with pink or blue highlights.

Bite Shoes were ranked No. 1 in comfort and performance in the 2005 Darrell Survey for Consumers. That shouldn’t come as a surprise: these are some of the most comfortable, long-lasting shoes on the market. Bite is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. With shoes like the Impact and the Golf X, there should be many more anniversaries to celebrate in the future.
