Equipment Review: AMF Golf Junior Sets
by Jeffrey Reed, Editor, LondonOntarioGolf.com

There’s no excuse for junior golfers to play with inadequate equipment in this age of modern technology. The days of using cut-down clubs from mom or dad are long gone. That said, it’s also important to purchase quality junior golf equipment – gear that’s smaller than adult equipment yet simply scaled down in size to meet all of the quality features from grip to toe.

AMF Golf, offering top-notch golf gear for more than a half-century, does it right when manufacturing equipment for youngsters. Now, AMF Golf, a division of Richmond, Virginia-based Dynamic Brands, has released a new series of junior sets aimed at solidifying the future of the game.

As in the past, London Ontario Golf enlisted the expert advice of Toronto-area youngster Lucas, a 12-year-old golfer with a lot of promise. I caddied for Lucas this summer, and saw a whole lot of potential in his game. Now, with AMF Golf equipment in his bag, his game has been elevated to even greater heights.

Lucas tested the ZXT 9.12 Series, designed for children ages 9 to 12, or between 4'4" and 5' tall. The ZXT 9.12 Series is a nine-piece set featuring a stainless steel driver and 3-wood, stainless steel 6 and 8 irons – all with graphite shafts – and a stainless steel pitching wedge. Also included is a heel-toe weighted putter, and a stand bag with dual strap (red for boys, lavender for girls) – plus matching premium head covers.

AMF has assembled the woods in this junior set with force-specific low kick point graphite shafts – ideal for helping youngsters get the ball airborne. The oversize, undercut irons also feature the low kick point shaft. And the pitching wedge is oversized, helpful for junior golfers (and for you recreational golfers of all ages).

Available in left- and right-handed models for boys, and right-handed for girls, the ZXT 9.12 Series set carries a MSRP of $139.95 US.

Lucas offers his insight into the ZXT 9.12 Series clubs. And we certainly appreciate honest opinions – something all kids display without hesitation.

“The clubs feel great – they are light – and I like their looks. I like the grips, too. This set of clubs will really help me to improve my game. Maybe the club face on the driver could be a little more livelier. The heads on the woods could be a little bigger, too. But I really like these clubs and I’ll tell my friends about them,” says Lucas, adding, “My game will be better.”

The ZXT line also includes a 3.5 Series six-piece set for youngsters ages 3 to 5 or between 3' and 3'8" tall; and a 5.9 Series seven-piece set for youngsters ages 5 to 9 or between 3'8" and 4'4" tall. As well, AMF Golf has released the new Little Z 3.5 Series, a five-piece set aimed at the youngest of golfers just introduced to the game. It carries a very affordable MSRP of $89.95 US.

We here at London Ontario Golf welcome AMF Golf as our Official Junior Golf Club. We’ve tested clubs from AMF’s Professional Brand and were extremely impressed. According to young Lucas, the same can be said about the new ZXT clubs.

Dynamic Brands is also the parent company for The Bag Boy Company, and The Baby Jogger Company. AMF Golf offers a collection of high quality and value-priced men’s, women’s and junior golf products.
