Equipment Review: Adams Golf Redline RPM Dual Driver,
Adams RPM Low Profile Fairway Metal
by Jeffrey Reed

Adams Golf has been making headlines with its Idea irons and hybrids, particularly popular and successful on the Champions Tour. There’s much to be said about Adams’s Redline RPM Dual driver, and RPM Low Profile fairway metal, too, both solid performers for golfers of all levels.

Redline RPM Dual Driver

Let me start off by saying, the Redline RPM Dual driver is the longest driver I have ever hit. Assisted by the Grafalloy Blue ProLaunch 65 stiff shaft, Adams’s Redline RPM Dual driver launched them high and long. The shaft length took a bit of getting used to, but once I dialed in, it was goodbye Mr. Titleist: the pill seemed to launch into orbit with this big dog.

The RPM Dual driver was the first driver to get to 460cc with movable weights. Designed for maximum performance plus forgiveness, this bad boy boasts a graphite and titanium crown, designed to save weight. An X-pattern inside the back of the face increases ball speed. Two screws can be interchanged for draw, fade or neutral ball flight. I found the most success with the draw bias. The kit comes with a 12 g weight, a 2 g weight, and two 7 g weights.

Adams is really onto something with its Xface engineering, which expands the COR zone across the face for greater ball speed on both centre and off-centre hits. Quite simply, you can’t mishit the pill with this big dog in your hands.

The RPM Dual driver is now available in five lofts 8.5 to 15.5 degrees. It retails for $345, making it one of the best values in premium drivers. Combined with the right shaft for you (and there are a variety available with purchase), the RPM Dual driver from Adams Golf is a lethal weapon, as far as your playing partners are concerned.

RPM Low Profile Fairway Metal

Off the tee, low-profile fairway metals can be difficult for mid- and high-handicap players to hit, but from the deck, there’s no substitute. Like the high-performance Sonartec fairway metals, Adams’s RPM Low Profile fairway metals are incredibly long, thanks to innovative technology. I tested the 15-deg. standard 3-wood, with a 28 g weight positioned low and back for a high launch. Using the Grafalloy Blue ProLaunch 75 stiff shaft, I actually stood with my mouth open and watched my ball soar high and long – almost as long as my driver.

Engineered with a patented Upside Down Technology to provide increased MOI, and lower CG, the shape of the new RPM fairway metals makes them incredibly forgiving. In addition to the standard centre-weighted neutral model, there’s a draw model with a 28 g weight positioned in the heel, plus a Tour model with a 25 g weight positioned forward for low spin. In total, there are nine lofts including three Tour-version lofts.

The RPM Low Profile fairway metal is well worth the retail price of $265. It’s the first fairway metal I have hit which performs to the standards of the Sonartec fairway metals.

Don’t be fooled by the high visibility of Adams Golf on the Champions Tour (and if you need reminding, those guys can play, too). I recently played a round with another of Canada’s leading golf equipment writers, and we agreed, Adams Golf is a leader in golf club manufacturing.
