Equipment Review: Adams Golf Idea Pro Hybrid
by Jeffrey Reed
Each month, Adams Golf is amongst the leading golf equipment manufacturers which pop up in web searches leading to our website. Chalk up another winning product from Adams: the Idea Pro hybrid.
As a 4.0 handicapper, I regularly use a hybrid club, typically off the tee on tight par-4s or from the rough on par-5s. One issue I have with many hybrids is that they produce too much spin (hence the reason I still keep a 2-iron in my bag for certain courses).
Enter Adams Golf’s Idea Pro hybrid, which may remove the 2-iron from my bag for good. Made for top amateurs and professionals, the Idea Pro hybrid is already a Tour-proven winner, ranking first in usage by pros on the combined PGA, Champions and Nationwide Tours. In fact, Adams Golf has set the hybrid count record on the Nationwide Tour, with 59 in play at the Northeast Pennsylvania Classic, and the Champions Tour, with 74 in play at the Senior PGA Championship. In addition, the Idea Pro hybrid was the most played hybrid club on the PGA Tour at The International tournament.
I liked the 18-degree Idea Pro hybrid as soon as I gripped the club, and after testing it at the range and on the course, the Idea Pro hybrid had a grip on me. This club is also available in 16-, 20-, 23- and 26-degree models. It comes with a top-notch shaft – the Aldila VS 80 g hybrid graphite shaft – and Golf Pride Tour Velvet grip.
Here’s the first thing I noticed about the Idea Pro hybrid: the ball jumps off the face with a low trajectory – perfect for a 2-iron replacement. Sometimes you need a hybrid that offers a high-trajectory shot, but accomplished players demand versatility. The Idea Pro hybrid delivers. Optimized centre of gravity is produced by smart design. An adjustable weight port is positioned forward in the sole for low spin, plus swing weight and shaft adjustment. Pull face construction and a custom steel insert increases ball speed off the face while also reducing spin. Tight doglegs will buckle at the knees when facing the Idea Pro hybrid.
This is a smart looking club, too, featuring a sleek, non-offset design for iron-like performance yet with greater playability and confidence.
If you’re a low-handicap golfer who is still not playing a hybrid, then listen to what PGA Tour rookie Bubba Dickerson says about Adams’ new hybrid: “I’ve been playing an 18-degree and 21-degree Idea Pro hybrid for most of the year and I credit Adams for making a golf club that performs time and time again at this level of the game. The spin rate is in the perfect range.”
Two thumbs up for this great hybrid club, with an initial MSRP of $250 US. For more information on the Adams Golf Idea Pro hybrid, visit www.adamsgolf.com.
