Equipment Review: Accu-Length Junior Driver, Junior Glove
by Jeffrey Reed
The junior golf review team here at London Ontario Golf was once again put to work, testing two new offerings from Accu-Length Expandable Junior Golf Clubs: the Accu-Length 250cc driver; and the Accu-Length Junior Golf Glove.
First, a bit about Accu-Length from the senior team here at London Ontario Golf. Boasting Rudy Duran, Tiger Woods’ childhood coach, as a company spokesperson, Accu-Length offers kids’ clubs with unique shaft-lengthening inserts. Golf Digest recently recognized Accu-Length as one of its top choices amongst junior sets (ranking only behind U.S. Kids), and the junior golfers on the London Ontario Golf team do the same.
With sets retailing from $139 US to $199 US, the clubs are affordable as well as functional. No longer is it acceptable for young golfers to use clubs with cut-down shafts. Voted “Best New Product” at the 2005 PGA Merchandise Show, the Accu-Length clubs are the first and only kids’ clubs designed to grow with your child. The unique spacer system allows the same club to grow inch-by-inch – for up to five years – with your budding Tiger Woods or Annika Sorenstam.
There are four models of Accu-Length clubs: 500 Series (purple) for children 39- to 47-in. tall – perfect for the beginner; 1000 Series (yellow) for golfers 45- to 55-in. tall; 2000 Series (red) tested by our team – golfers 51- to 59-in. tall (these clubs have a stiffer shaft and matching loft for proper trajectory and loft); and 3000 Series (grey) for golfers 55- to 62-in. tall, and featuring clubs which closely resemble adult clubs but with more forgiveness and ease of use.
Both the new driver and the new glove from Accu-Length were big hits here at London Ontario Golf. Here’s the skinny on both.
The new 250cc driver features a stainless steel head, large sweet spot, 11 degrees of loft and a 54-degree lie – perfect for young golfers. It’s available only in the longer length series – 2000 and 3000 – and has the same custom fit and expandable shaft technology as Accu-Length’s other offerings. Available in both left-hand and right-hand models, the 250cc driver retails for $70 US.
It’s great to see a top-notch junior golf glove on the scene. Accu-Length offers a winner with its new junior glove, made from fine Cabretta leather and strategically placed synthetics. According to Accu-Length, microfibre synthetic enhances grip strength by up to 40 per cent. Microfibre spandex inserts at the knuckles and fingers helps customize the fit to the contours of the hand. Digitized palm material wraps around the index finger for added comfort. Who knew so much technology went into the design of a golf glove for kids? This one is available in small, medium and large sizes in the 1000, 2000 and 3000 series, and retails for only $8 US.
